There cannot be shades of grey when it comes to equality issues. This doesn’t mean we are all the same, indeed we should embrace and celebrate the differences amongst us, these are what make us unique individuals. Equality isn’t about being the same, it’s about it being irrelevant what your sexual orientation is, your ethnicity, the colour of your skin, your gender, age or anything else. Equality is not being stereotyped, discriminated against or some characteristics being used to put you down or control you. To be treated as equals is an acceptance that we are all unique human beings with the same rights and responsibilities. <br />Positive discrimination doesn’t work for me either, while I accept it has been advantageous to some groups in the past; I believe it actually reinforces the notion that some people are less equal than others and need special intervention and tolerance.
