Cloud computing

Cloud computing is just about here. It’s been talked about for such a long time but people are adopting it bit by bit. Web mail was the first part of the transition but now web storage is following on rapidly behind. Undoubtedly Google has done a lot to further the cause and others have followed suit. Photos are stored online by many people now and are an easy way to share. Online music storage is also beginning to take off. But for good honest plain storage of a reasonable size and without masses of adverts I’ve found Dropbox to be a really useful, reliable and free storage space.

Give them a go. I think you’ll like!

Free stuff

There is no such thing as free stuff. Someone always has to pay!

Unfortunately the internet age has fostered the idea that you can get things for free; something for nothing. People often don’t realise that when it comes to things that are obtained without payment that there is always a payback time. Costs will be recovered. Depending on the nature and situation of the ‘free stuff’ costs will be recovered by higher prices, insurance rates, rents, interest rates, taxes, some other form of levy or less choice. And one thing you can most certainly be sure of is that the less well off in society will pay proportionately more than those rich enough not to notice. Ultimately ‘free stuff’ helps with the enabling of the rich to get richer and forcing the poor to get poorer.

Cyber acquaintances

Isn’t the interweb a rum ol’ do? Your paths cross and you digitally connect with all manner of individuals. Some you already know and some you don’t. But its many more than I suspect you would ever hope to meet in the analogue world. And, you interact with them in ways that perhaps you would be too reserved to do face to face. Some people share intimate secrets with total strangers. Some organise revolutions. Some find love, enlightenment or both. It’s a world of infinite intercourse. Sadly all this free love of the World Wide Web has its darker side. Weirdoes, stalkers and worse lurk in the binary undergrowth. I’ve been reading recently about someone who has suffered from an interweb stalker; Most bizarre. Be careful how you choose your electronic companions.

Do you hate Websense?

Do you have a problem accessing websites at work because of Websense?
Would you like to know how to get around Websense?
No longer allow Websense to get in your way!

Here’s how:

Use an anonymous proxy server

What is an anonymous proxy server?

An anonymous proxy server allows you to surf the web in private. You can surf the web without leaving a trail of particulars about your computer system, your browser, your IP address, your country, etc. It’s as if you are not there.

Click below for a list of FREE anonymous proxies:

Communication breakdown

Isn’t e-mail a wonderful thing?

I’ve just received a reply to an e-mail I had sent to someone supporting them as they had asked me to do. They have replied rebuking me!

I’m confused, we are probably now both aggrieved, and neither of us probably knows why. The written word is my preferred form of making contact with people but it is oh so hard to make yourself understood without the emphasis and inflections that the spoken word affords.

It’s Monday morning and life seems far too complicated!
