Paul’s floppy

Just before we came back from France on the shuttle just over a week ago we dived into Carrefour in Cite Europe to do a mega shop. You know the sort of thing; essentials; beer, wine, cheese, saucisson, crisps and sweetie things. One of the packs of sweets I brought was made by Haribo and residing under the name of ‘Floppy’. For all I know the Haribo Floppy may well be a big hit in British playgrounds but I’d never heard of them. So I just had to buy them. Haven’t tried them yet. I might just keep them in their virgin state.

In praise of the midget gem

In the world of fruit, jelly and sugar based confectionery the midget gem is a jewel surpassed by none. It is the most delicious fruity sweet going. I'm not a great fan of the chocolate bar, Topics being about my favourite. When I have a sweet craving it is usually for something with a nondescript fruit bias. So its midget gems for me every time. Midget gems just tick so many boxes; they are sweet, soft, chewy, fruity and small. What’s not to like?

Very often in this life you get what you pay for. The more you pay the better the product. Not so with midget gems. Head and shoulders above any other is the Tesco Value midget gem. Not sure why that should be but it is. Fact!
They are softer than most. I’m not a big fan of hard gum. The fruit flavours are more nondescript than many of its contemporaries, to the point where I would defy anyone to pick out any recognisable fruit flavour. Far from being a failing I see these traits as being perfect for delivering maximum sweetie goodness. Ladies and gentlemen I endorse and recommend wholeheartedly to you this confection delight. Your pleasurable delectation will not be denied.

Das Kinder

Just when I thought I had got the Christmas present buying nonsense sorted a month or so ago, the cold realisation that I had bought a selection box for a three month old Great Nephew dawned on me. Bugger! The replacement was easily resolved. I purchased a fluffy toy. But, I now had one Kinder Selection Box too many, along with a predicament. What to do with the surplus selection box?
When I was a lad, Kinder products either weren’t available in the UK, or they didn’t exist. When my son was growing up there were Kinder Eggs, but I don’t remember any other sweets from them. The Kinder selection box contained all manner of wonderful looking sweets. All on a similar theme, chocolate with creamy fillings.

I’ve now eaten the lot. My favourite was the Happy Hippo, a hippo shaped wafer with a milky white filling, and part dipped in either white or milk chocolate. The white ones had the edge. I might well succumb to a Happy Hippo next time I find myself in a sweet shop.
